
According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Caatron a Stearns, Ky. man has been arrested after a high speed pursuit that ended here in Wayne County.
The vehicle in the pursuit was stolen in Madison County after the male left a rehab facility there. The initial report of the auto theft was taken by Kentucky State Police Richmond Post 7, then was located later at Walmart by Somerset Police Department in Somerset. After they approached the vehicle the male fled with 3 units with the Somerset Police Police Department in pursuit. The vehicle continued into Wayne County with speeds over 100 miles per hour. Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff Office joining in once it entered Wayne County. The vehicle continuously ran approaching vehicles off the roadway and passing others on the shoulder. The pursuit continued through downtown Monticello on Main Street at speeds in excess of 85 MPH then turning on Kentucky Highway East 92. The vehicle tuned on Burnett Hollow Road then ran through a field and returned onto East Kentucky Highway 92. At this point Somerset Police Department ended their pursuit with the Wayne County Deputies taken over. The pursuit ended in the Coopersville area when the male decided to surrender to Deputies Valis Smedley and James Barnett. The male was taken into custody without any resistance. Kentucky State Police Trooper Adam Childers arrived on scene and took possession of the stolen vehicle.
Deputy James Barnett charged and arrested Jacob Jones of Stearns, KY. for speeding 26 MPH or greater than 26 MPH, 7 counts of fleeing or evading Police-1st degree, 7 counts of wanton endangerment-1st degree (Police Officer), 1 count of receiving stolen propert-1st degree ($10,00.00 or more),1 count of wanton endangermmetn-1st degree, 1 count of criminal mischief-2nd degree and reckless driving.
Jones was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
The investigation is continuing with pending charges by Kentucky State Police, Somerset Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff Office.
The Monticello Police Department also assisted by blocking traffic at main intersections.
