The Wayne County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, April 16. During the meeting, the board voted to amend the 2025-2026 school calendar to reflect days missed for weather. The last day for students will be May 21. Closing day for staff is May 22. The board also approved participating in the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision, which will allow all Wayne County students to continue receiving free breakfast and lunch next year.
In other business, the board:
• Heard a report from Mrs. Alecia Parker, principal of Walker
Early Learning Center, on school improvement initiatives at
WELC.
• Recognized Alena Anchondo for being accepted into the
Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA).
• Approved a bid from Mago Construction to pave the bus
garage parking lot.
• Approved the 2026-2027 District Technology Plan.
• Approved the Continuation of Learning Plan (NTI) for 2026-
2027.
