A Wayne County woman with a long‑running murder case was back on the court docket this week. Hope Renee White, who was convicted in the 2008 stabbing death of Julie Burchett in Monticello, appeared by Zoom for a status hearing in Wayne Circuit Court.
Court records show Burchett was found in her car at an abandoned pallet mill and had been stabbed multiple times. White was first convicted of murder in 2010, but that conviction was later overturned on appeal. She was tried again, convicted of murder a second time, and sentenced to 25 years in prison— a sentence the Kentucky Supreme Court has upheld.
White is now working with the Kentucky Innocence Project. In a status hearing held yesterday the court set deadlines for both sides to file their paperwork, with proposed orders due by September 15th, after which the judge will issue a ruling
