Dylan Turner drove in five runs on the three hits to lead Wayne County past Somerset Christian 16- 1 on Monday. Turner tripled in the second inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring two.
Wayne County Varsity Cardinals won thanks in part to 15 runs in the second inning. Landon Denney singled, scoring one run; Caleb Sargent singled, Palmer Smith scored two runs; Turner tripled, scoring three runs; Connor Hinkle singled, scoring one run; Sargent tripled, scoring two runs; Smith singled, scoring two runs, and Turner singled, scoring two runs.
Somerset Christian opened the scoring in the first after Harris grounded out, scoring one run.
Dawson Pyles doubled down the left field line, which helped Wayne County Cardinals tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
Turner earned the win for Wayne County Varsity Cardinals. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and one run over three innings, striking out five and walking none. Ray took the loss for Somerset Christian. The pitcher went two innings, giving up 16 runs ( 13 earned) on 12 hits, striking out one and walking three.
Wayne County Varsity Cardinals amassed 12 hits in the game. Denney, Smith, and Sargent each collected multiple hits for Wayne County. Gage Gregory and Sargent each stole multiple bases. Wayne County Cardinals ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game. Wayne County was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Nate Criswell made the most plays with five.
Harris led Somerset Christian with one run batted in. Case went 1 for 2 at the plate to lead Somerst Christian in the hits.
Wayne County welcomes Corbin on Thursday for their next game.
