Four people from Monticello were arrested over the weekend following an investigation into a series of thefts at a local warehouse, according to law enforcement officials. Authorities say more arrests could be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
The Monticello Police Department identified the suspects as Thomas Lyons, 46, Julie Towery, 44, Charles Green, 31, and Michael Stephenson, 53.
Each individual has been charged with theft by unlawful taking involving property valued at more than $10,000, as well as burglary and engaging in organized crime.
Investigators allege the group targeted the Country Farm and Home warehouse located in the former Belden’s building on West Columbia Avenue near Stoplight No. 3.
Assistant Chief Josh Smith said the suspects are accused of stealing large quantities of brass fittings and wire, which were later sold to recycling centers in Wayne and Pulaski counties. Police believe the thefts occurred on multiple occasions and involved several people.
All four suspects were booked into the Wayne County Detention Center. Authorities say the investigation remains active and additional arrests are possible.
