Monticello has a New Police Chief

As of today, the City of Monticello has a new Police Chief and Assistant Chief.

The Monticello City Council earlier this month approved the hiring of Josh Asbury as Chief and took action to create and hire Josh Thompson as assistant police chief.  Both officially begin their duties today as yesterday was the final day for Chief Joey Hoover who resigned due to health reasons.

Chief Asberry has 20 years of law enforcement experience, having joined the Monticello Police Department as Patrolman in June 2015. He was promoted to Police Lieutenant in April 2019 and assistant chief in 2024, he has continued to better himself in both performance and specialized supervisory training.
Assistant Chief Smith joined the Monticello Police Department in June 2021 and has successfully
completed all required training and duty assignments since. He was promoted to Sargant in August of 2024.  He comes to work daily with a positive attitude and is always ready to help within the                                                                                       department and in our community.
Congratulations to both of these men and their families. Your dedication to the Monticello Police Department and service to the citizens of Monticello is greatly appreciated!
