(WKYT) – A Lexington woman said a night at a Corbin motel turned into the worst experience of her life.
Faith Kimweli says in May 2025, she and her partner were in Whitley County, staying at a Red Roof Inn in Corbin.
That’s where Kimweli says she met Travis Blackwood and his girlfriend.
“Had a very just friendly conversation for quite some time,” Kimweli said.
But it escalated when Kimweli said she heard Blackwood say a racial slur.
She said she questioned if she heard him correctly.
“I was like well if you said it just say you said it, it’s not – and he began approaching me and then said ‘I said it n-word’ and punched me in the face,” Kimweli said.
She said the violence didn’t stop there. Kimweli said after her partner and Blackwood got into a fight, she says she was pulled to the ground by Blackwood’s girlfriend.
That’s when she said he sat on top of her and continued to punch her.
“I had my broken nose four places here, I suffered a concussion, tears to my ear canals just from like the pounding, a couple cracked teeth actually,” Kimweli said.
Now, she’s asking the community for help. She started a GoFundMe to help pay off medical bills from when she was treated at Baptist Health in Corbin.
“I will live with it for the rest of my life. This changed my life. This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me,” Kimweli said.
Whitley County court records show Blackwood was charged with fourth degree assault, a misdemeanor.
Court documents show Blackwood pleaded guilty nearly two weeks ago on March 3.
According to court documents, Blackwood is currently facing another case in Laurel County where he’s charged with 2nd degree strangulation.
