(WKYT) The body of a southern Kentucky man was recovered in Lake Cumberland Monday afternoon.
Officials suspect that 53-year-old Sonny Ehrsam drowned after falling into the lake when he was with family Sunday.
Search and rescue crews responded to the Woodson Bend part of the lake on Sunday afternoon when relatives say Ehrsam fell off a boat and did not resurface.
“The momentum carried him forward, possibly a cooler near the front of the boat. He tripped over that and fell into the water,” said Pulaski Co. Rescue Squad Assistant Chief Keith Price.
“They used ROV and a robot. He was found in 104 feet of water. And they located him by sonar and brought him up,” said Price.
His son says Sonny Ehrsam loved them dearly and worked hard for them so he could spend time loving on them. He says they spent all weekend together, and he’ll be remembered as an honest man who took pride in his country, community and his last name.
Crews say the family was a big help in the recovery process.
Ehrsam’s body will be taken to the state medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be scheduled Tuesday.
Pulaski County received help from Russell County Rescue, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Christian Ministries out of Tennessee.
