Local Fireworks ordinance will be Enforced

From the Monticello Police Department:
Before you launch your backyard missile program, the Monticello Police Department would like to remind everyone that Monticello City Ordinance #840 regulates when fireworks can be used within the city limits.
The ordinance allows fireworks to be used:
📅 July 2nd through July 8th
🕚 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
That means if you’re setting off fireworks at 1:30 a.m. on June 29th because “freedom,” you’re actually just giving our officers a reason to come visit.
The ordinance was put in place to help keep everyone safe, reduce fire hazards, be considerate of neighbors and pets, and show respect for veterans who may be affected by loud explosions.
🚨 Important Reminder:
If you’re setting off fireworks outside the approved dates and times, you may be cited and required to appear in Wayne District Court.
Our officers will be responding to complaints and enforcing violations as needed. We’d much rather spend our shift eating gas station snacks and pretending paperwork doesn’t exist than writing citations over fireworks.
So enjoy the holiday, have fun, and keep all fingers, eyebrows, and city ordinance violations intact.
Always remember to celebrate responsibly and have a plan to have a sober driver if needed.
🎇 Happy Fourth of July from the Monticello Police Department
