A personal care home for adults in Wayne County is under scrutiny from the state

MONTICELLO, Ky. (WKYT) – A personal care home for adults in Wayne County is under scrutiny from the state.

The Dishman Personal Care Home is on Worsham Avenue here in Monticello and residents told WKYT has been the subject of an investigation that lasted months, alleging cases of resident abuse, horrible living conditions and inappropriate behavior among residents that was allowed.

According to the 19-page complaint against the long-term care facility, the investigation found that residents were placed in immediate peril. The problems vary and range from residents drinking hand sanitizer, hurting one another and even having inappropriate sexual relations with one another that staff knew about.

A worker told WKYT that she witnessed some of the behavior, “blew the whistle” on Dishman, and was then threatened.

The state health cabinet investigation alleges that some residents physically and verbally abused others because no staff were in the facility to provide supervision or to intervene. City and county officials also say the numerous problems led to first responders being frequently called to the facility.

On April 30, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services Office of Inspector General revoked the facility’s operating license due to significant issues at the facility.

“The personal care home was given 30 days to safely transition all residents to other housing. The cabinet has taken additional legal action in Wayne Circuit Court terminating operation of Dishman due to the facility’s inaction to correct multiple citations. On May 6, a local circuit judge issued an order preventing the facility from accepting new admissions,” the cabinet said in the statement.

The original owners sold the facility a few years ago, the new owners chose to retain the name of the facility.
