The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 11 London arrested a Whitley City man in reference to him bringing a knife onto school grounds.
On August 20, 2026, KSP Post 11 was contacted by the McCreary County School Board of Education regarding a complaint that a substitute teacher had brought a knife onto school property.
Preliminary investigation determined that on August 13, 2026, Gilbert Irvin, 72 years old, of Whitley City, KY, brought a knife onto the school grounds. During that time, school staff did not believe that Mr.Irvin posed any threat to the students or staff at the school on the property, but his employment was terminated by the school board.
Due to bringing the weapon onto school grounds, a warrant was issued for Mr. Irvin. Mr. Irvin has been arrested and charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Property.
