Deadly Weekend on Lake Cumberland

Two men lost their lives in separate drowning incidents on Lake Cumberland over the weekend, according to local officials.

In Russell County, 42‑year‑old Andy Schmidt of Lexington disappeared Saturday while swimming near Wolf Creek Landing. Schmidt had been camping with friends when witnesses reported he called out for help and slipped beneath the surface. Rescue crews recovered his body Sunday morning around 9 a.m.

A second drowning occurred in Pulaski County in the Pitman Creek area. Emergency responders were called Saturday after a man jumped from a boat and never resurfaced. Search efforts paused overnight and resumed Sunday, when crews located the body of 65‑year‑old Ricky Turner.

Authorities in both counties continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
