Joe Silvers has been named Public Health Hero Award recipient

The Lake Cumberland District Health Department is proud to announce that Joe Silvers, RPh, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Dr. Hossein Fallahzadeh Public Health Hero Award.

The Dr. Hossein Fallahzadeh Public Health Hero Award is given annually to an individual who has made remarkable contributions to improving public health in the Lake Cumberland District. The award is presented as part of National Public Health Week.

Silvers has served many years as a community pharmacist in the Lake Cumberland area, most recently and serving longest the citizens of Wayne County. He has served on the District Board of Health for many years. He also currently serves as the Chair of the Wayne County local Board of Health. Joe has been very active in supporting public health during his career. He has a reputation for advocating for his patients and their well-being.

“Joe Silvers  is a dedicated health professional in the Lake Cumberland area who has given sacrificially to his patients and community through his public health service,” said Amy Tomlinson, Public Health Director of LCDHD. “I’m proud to announce his selection for this award.”

The award will be presented on Friday, April 17 during a reception at the Wayne County Health Department at 2 PM EST.

Nominations are accepted for the award each year on the LCDHD website during February. This award is named in honor of its first recipient, the late Dr. Hossein Fallahzadeh, a long-time surgeon in Somerset and board member for the District Board of Health. Previous winners include: Dr. Richard Miles of Russell County; Christy Stearns of Clinton County and Dr. Joe Weigel of Pulaski County.
