(WKYT) – A London man was sentenced to 220 months in federal prison on drug charges.
Jimmy Barrett, 47, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, according to court documents.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Kentucky said in September 2024, Barrett led police on a high-speed chase through Laurel County after meeting with his supply source in Louisville.
When meeting his supplier, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Barrett obtained around six pounds of methamphetamine.
The chase ended after Barrett wrecked his vehicle, leading police to search his car, where they found and seized the methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Barrett admitted his intent to distribute the drugs to other mid- and lower-level traffickers in the London and Corbin areas.
Barrett is required to serve 85% of his prison sentence under federal law, and upon his release, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for 10 years.
