The Lake Cumberland District Health Department is warning of a possible new scam targeting residents in the area.
The health department said they’ve received reports of someone calling individuals in the area claiming to be a representative of the health department.
The health department said in a public statement that while they do occasionally conduct legitimate interviews or outreach calls, they do not ask for private or financial information. Private and financial information should not be provided to anyone over the phone claiming to be with the health department.
Anyone who receives a call and believes it is suspicious is advised to hang up the phone and contact the local health department directly to verify its legitimacy.
