Two Arrested after Allegedly Attempting to Steal Vehicle

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron an alert Deputy Sheriff on patrol serving civil papers in the Twin Oaks Subdivision of Wayne County observed two men towing a vehicle away from a residence that just didn’t look right to him.
Deputy Jerry Coffey also knowing the individuals towing the vehicle then conducted a vehicle traffic stop to further investigate knowing the homeowner was not home. The homeowner had made a complaint earlier in the week to the Sheriff’s Office about items being taken from this same residence. The two men stated to Deputy Coffey they were told to pick up the vehicle they were towing by a female they named. During the investigation the truck and homeowner arrived on scene and verified the two men, and the named female had no right to remove his vehicle or even to be on his property. Deputy Coffey’s investigation also revealed that one of the two men had entered the residence previously and changed a door lock after same named female requested him to do so. Again, the residence owner stated the female had no rights in having the man change the door lock.
Deputy Coffey then charged and arrested Cory Neal of Monticello, KY. for theft by unlawful taking or disposition (greater than $ 1,000.00 but less than $ 10,000.00), criminal trespassing-2nd degree and burglary-3rd degree. Neal was also arrested on a Russell County District Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to pay as ordered on the underlying charge of trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than 20 but less than 120 drug unspecified).
Deputy Coffey also arrested Jacob Morgan of Monticello, KY. for theft by unlawful taking or disposition-auto (greater than $1,000.00 but less than $10,000.00) and criminal mischief-2nd degree. Morgan was also arrested on a Wayne County District Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to pay or show cause on the underlying charge of non-payment of court costs, fees or fines.
Neal and Morgan were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
Deputy Coffey’s investigation continues with additional arrests expected.
