A Wayne County woman has pleaded guilty to Class A Trafficking in a United States Federal Court

This case stated back in the early part of 2023, after the Wayne County Sheriff Office had received numerous complaints about the woman selling illegal narcotics(methamphetamine) here in Wayne County. An undercover investigation was initiated at that time by Sheriff Catron. The ongoing investigation revealed that the female would be conducting a large narcotic sale on May 8, 2023. A description of the vehicle to be used and a possible location of the sale was obtained. At approximately 7:15 pm on May 8,2023, Deputy Brad Tucker observed the target vehicle pulling into the suspected location that he was conducting surveillance on and conducted a traffic stop. Deputy Derek Dennis arrived on scene and deployed Deputy K-9 Unit Dunya for a free-air sniff around the vehicle. Deputy K-9 Dunya altered positively for illegal narcotics on the passenger’s side door area. Deputies then conducted a search of the vehicle which resulted in approximately 154.13 grams or 5.437 ounces of the illegal narcotic methamphetamine, a 9mm Taurus handgun, 2 different types of narcotic tablets, 2 sets of digital scales and $1,494.00 in currency being seized.

Deputy Derek Dennis then charged and arrested Candace Nevels aka Candace Dishman of Monticello, KY. for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine) (firearm enhanced), possession of a controlled substance-3rd degree (drug unspecified), possession of a controlled substance-2nd degree (drug unspecified) and possession of drug paraphernalia).

Deputies Tucker and Dennis were assisted by Deputy Vallis Smedley.

This case was then transferred to the United States District Court Eastern District of Kentucky Southern Division at London. On March 24, 2025, Nevels pleaded guilty to Class A Trafficking in front of Federal Judge Robert E. Wier. Nevels is continuing to be held in detention and awaits her final sentencing by Judge Wier which is set for July 9, 2025.
