According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Wayne County man has been arrested on drug trafficking, firearm and related charges.
On March 30, 2025, at approximately 2:30 am Deputy Nick Bertram observed two suspicious vehicles located at the Lynch Ford Boat Ramp. While approaching one of these vehicles took off very quickly. Deputy Bertram conducted a traffic stop on that vehicle. The driver was found not to have a valid operator’s license and due to his suspicious actions Deputy Bertram then deployed his narcotic K-9 Unit Deputy Riko for a free-air sniff of the vehicle. K-9 Riko alerted on the passenger side of the vehicle as being positive for containing illegal narcotics. Inside the vehicles passenger side glove box Deputy located a zip lock baggie containing a crystal substance appearing to be methamphetamine, 2 glass smoking pipes commonly used with illegal narcotic and a loaded Hi-Point 9mm handgun.
Deputy Bertram charged and arrested Mark J. Carpenter of Monticello, KY. for no operator’s license, trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine-enhanced), possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Carpenter was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center. While processing paperwork at the Sheriff’s Office the crystal substance tested positive for being methamphetamine using the Tru-Narc Narcotic Analysis Instrument with a total weight of 2.35 grams.
The Wayne County Sheriff Office also arrested the following.
Tracy K. Shelton of Monticello, KY. was arrested on Wayne County Circuit Court Indictment Warrant of Arrest for receiving stolen property and persistent felony offender-1st degree. Shelton was also arrested on a Wayne County District Court Criminal Complaint Warrant of Arrest for theft by unlawful taking or disposition-firearm and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Shelton was also arrested on a Wayne County District Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to pay or show cause on the underlying charge of criminal mischief-2nd degree.
Tony J. Wallace of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to pay or show cause on the underlying charges of theft by unlawful taking or disposition-auto and fleeing or evading Police-2nd degree (on foot).
Melissa S. Wallace of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County Circuit Court Commitment Order of Arrest for Contempt of Court for failure to comply with Drug Court.
James C. Shepherd of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for assault-4th degree. Shepherd was also arrested on a McCreary County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to pay on the underlying charge of possession of a controlled substance-1st degree (methamphetamine).
Shelton, Tony Wallace, Meliss Wallace and Shepherd were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center
