According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Monticello man has been arrested after almost sideswiping a deputy’s patrol vehicle.
On October 8, 2024, at approximately 4:45 pm, Deputy Derek Dennis was traveling east on Kentucky Highway 90 in the city limits of Monticello when an oncoming vehicle crossed the roadways center line almost striking Dennis patrol vehicle. Deputy Dennis then conducted a traffic stop on that vehicle and when he approached the vehicle’s driver, he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted he had smoked marijuana. After administering the standard field sobriety test Deputy Dennis placed the driver under arrest. A search of the vehicle resulted in approximately 1 pound of marijuana being located and seized.
Deputy Dennis charged and arrested Joseph M. McCoy of Monticello, KY. for carless driving, operating a motor vehicle under a controlled substance and trafficking marijuana (8ounces to less than 5 pounds).
McCoy was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
