Official Statement Issued on B Batteries Return

GLASGOW, Ky. – The Kentucky National Guard welcomed home more than 300 Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 623d Field Artillery Regiment (HIMARS) last week after a ten-month deployment to the Middle East in support of U.S. Army Central Command.
“As they have time and again, our Guard members stepped up to answer the call when their nation needed them,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “The Kentucky National Guard is the best of Team Kentucky, and they make us so proud. To the soldiers returning from this long deployment in the Middle East: Congratulations on a successful mission; we are glad you’re home safe.”
The battalion, made up of men and women from across Kentucky, served with distinction in eight different countries, contributing to key military operations and strengthening partnerships with allied nations. According to Lt. Col. Jason T. Simpson, the battalion commander, this deployment marked a significant chapter in the history of the unit, which performed a wide array of missions critical to regional security and stability.
“The men and women of the 1-623d executed their mission with the utmost dedication and honor, representing the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the United States with excellence,” said Simpson. “We are grateful for their service and thrilled to have them safely reunited with their
families and loved ones.”
Upon arrival into Lexington and Louisville, the returning Soldiers were greeted by KYNG leadership before taking a final bus ride to their duty stations.
“We are honored to welcome home the Soldiers of the 1-623d who represented the Kentucky Army National Guard on the world stage with such distinction,” said Maj. Gen. Haldane B. Lamberton, Kentucky’s adjutant general. “Their hard work and perseverance in a challenging environment reflect the strength and readiness of our force. We are proud of their accomplishments and grateful for the sacrifices made by both the Soldiers and their families during this deployment.”
Welcome-home ceremonies were held in Glasgow, Tompkinsville, Monticello, and
Campbellsville to honor the unit’s accomplishments, with military leaders, local officials, and the Soldiers’ families in attendance.
