(WKYT) – A wrongful death lawsuit claims an Addiction Recovery Care facility in Pikeville was understaffed, employed unqualified workers and failed to monitor a patient who later died, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Earl Rison says his brother, 56-year-old Michael Rison, died last July at the ARC-Ran facility after voluntarily entering treatment for heroin and fentanyl addiction.
The Herald-Leader reports Michael was found dead one month after moving into the facility.
The coroner said Michael Rison died of cardiac arrest but noted he had been dead for a while before his body was found by staff.
The lawsuit alleges Rison had reported chest pain and trouble breathing, but staff failed to properly monitor him, the Herald-Leader reports.
ARC has denied wrongdoing.
In 2026, the company has seen its founder and former CEO, Timmy Robinson Jr., indicted on federal fraud and money laundering charges and it settled separate lawsuits with the U.S. Department of Justice and Clear Cove Capital over its Medicaid billing practices and a commeral disputes over tax credits.
