Two people were arrested after Kentucky State Police executed a search warrant at a residence on Cabin Fork in Dorton on October 2.
According to investigators, troopers encountered Keith Dye outside the home and Bronis Yates just inside the residence. Authorities said they were the only two people present during the search.
Police reported that Yates initially provided false identifying information before revealing her true identity. Troopers determined she was wanted on four active warrants.
Investigators said Yates told them she had traveled from Indiana to eastern Kentucky earlier that day and admitted bringing approximately seven grams of methamphetamine for personal use. Authorities stated that the remaining suspected methamphetamine was located in luggage inside the home.
During the search, troopers reported finding suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, and other drug-related items. Investigators also discovered a handgun concealed between couch cushions in the living room.
Because both Dye and Yates are convicted felons, authorities said neither is legally permitted to possess a firearm.
Troopers noted that Dye claimed the handgun belonged to someone else and that he was unaware it was inside the residence. However, investigators said they located a note inside a safe containing the firearm’s identifying information. According to police, Dye acknowledged ownership of the safe and its contents.
Both individuals were taken to the Pike County Detention Center.
Yates was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dye faces the same drug-related charges along with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Authorities said the suspected methamphetamine will be submitted to the state crime laboratory for testing.
