The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has introduced a new driver licensing database designed to modernize and streamline licensing services across the state.
The system, known as the Kentucky Information Network for Driver Licensing (KINDL), replaces a database that had been in use for approximately 40 years. Officials say the upgraded platform is easier for employees to use and better integrates with Kentucky’s online driver licensing services.
The new system allows customers to complete more tasks online, including license renewals and submitting vision screening documentation, potentially reducing the need for in-person office visits.
Transportation officials report that customer wait times have improved significantly since implementation of the new platform. They also encourage Kentucky residents to create online accounts before their licenses are due for renewal to make future transactions faster and more convenient.
State officials said additional regional licensing offices are expected to open, and future plans include offering vision screenings at certain public libraries, allowing some customers to complete that requirement closer to home.
