(WKYT) – Kentucky is set to receive $9.1 million in FEMA funds, President Donald Trump announced in a Truth social media post Tuesday.
“I am approving 9.1 Million Dollars for severe storms, winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides, that they are recovering from. The Great People of Kentucky are resilient, smart, and tough, and I am with them all the way,” Trump said in the post.
The funds will cover the costs of severe weather events that occurred from June 17-30.
During that time period, four people were killed in flash flooding in Jackson and Madison counties.
The counties eligible for the funds include: Garrard, Jackson, Jessamine, Madison, Rockcastle, and Wayne.
Congressman Andy Barr (R) of Kentucky’s Sixth District led the push by the commonwealth’s congressional delegation to secure the funds and, in a statement, expressed his gratitude to the president.
“Tonight, I spoke with President Trump over the phone. I am grateful that after I advocated for FEMA relief to recover from difficult storms that hit Kentucky earlier this summer, President Trump is approving $9.1M in federal funds to Kentucky,” Barr said. “I will always fight to deliver for the people of our Commonwealth.”
