. (WKYT) – Former Kentucky running back Dante Dowdell was seriously injured in a recent ATV accident while visiting his hometown of Picayune, Mississippi, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said Tuesday at SEC Media Days.
Dowdell transferred to Georgia following the 2025 season after spending his previous season with the Wildcats. Smart did not detail the nature of Dowdell’s injuries, but said the running back is being treated at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, a hospital that specializes in spinal cord and brain injuries.
“He’s out of the really tough range, but as far as his complete health and coming all the way back, I don’t know what that looks like in terms of this year,” Smart said.
Dowdell signed with Oregon out of high school before transferring to Nebraska and Kentucky. Last season, he had 112 carries for 560 yards and three touchdowns for the Wildcats.
