Lancaster police chief charged with DUI placed on administrative leave, mayor says

(WKYT) – The Lancaster chief of police who was charged with driving under the influence following a crash has been placed on administrative leave.

Chief Ryan Hughes was involved in an off-duty accident in Somerset, where he appeared to be under the influence, according to responding officers.

He allegedly said he had a few drinks about an hour before driving.

Lancaster Mayor Michael Gaffney said Hughes has been placed on administrative leave as they investigate the accident and gather information.

“We take these matters seriously, will follow all policy and procedures as well as the law to ensure a thorough, fair and just process for all parties,” Gaffney said.
