(WKYT) – Shortly after severe weather threats in Mount Sterling, the sky was calm.
But Tuesday evening, Montgomery County residents say they saw dark skies and a funnel.
“We were just watching a funnel cloud coming down and now I can go swimming in a pool,” said Andrew Pooley, a Montgomery County resident.
Spinning clouds came and went over skies near Mt. Sterling.
“It was pretty terrifying to think that, like, it could possibly touch down over here and cause damage,” said Mallory Rees, Pooley’s fiancée.
Pooley took a video of the sky right over Wades Mill Road while he was working on a house.
“I saw the clouds forming up down the road from where I was at pretty rapidly and I saw it form close to where I actually live — and then it crossed the road — and that’s when it started to progress a lot more,” Pooley said.
Rees said she had just gotten off of work and was at their home just down the road.
“I was laying on the couch and I look out the window and I just see black clouds – and then he calls me — and he’s like, ‘get the dogs, get down the road now, like, as fast as you can,’” Rees said.
They were trying to get to the neighbor’s storm shelter, but that wasn’t necessary.
“It was moving away pretty fast and it was going back up. I didn’t wanna miss that
shot because I’ve never seen [a tornado] before,” Pooley said.
Around 7:15 p.m., Emergency Management Director Greg Beam said preliminary observations showed no damages.
He said the National Weather Service will be in Montgomery county on Wednesday to determine if a tornado touched down.
