(WKYT) – The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its preliminary findings for a June plane crash that killed a couple from Florida in Jessamine County.
The report states that the plane took off from Blue Grass Airport at 8:40 a.m. and was piloted by Brian Tonner, with his wife, Karen, as the passenger.
The plane ascended to an altitude of 4,500 feet before it began to descend at around 8:44 and eventually crashed on a farm two minutes later.

According to the report, witness video and audio obtained from a doorbell camera showed the plane flying at a low altitude while emitting a grinding noise, followed by a popping sound.
The plane’s fuselage also separated from both wings during what was described as an inverted, near-vertical descent.
Other witnesses described the plane as spinning about its lateral axis.
According to the report, the debris path extended for 1,700 feet; the wreckage was taken to a secure location for further examination.
