A 4‑year‑old Pulaski County boy died Saturday night after being struck by a firework during a Fourth of July celebration, according to the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office.
Officials say a tube-style fireworks device tipped over after being lit, causing a projectile to fire horizontally and hit the child, identified as Rhett Luttrell, in the torso. The accident happened at a home on Jacksboro Street in Somerset.
Emergency responders received a 911 call at 10:16 p.m. reporting a fireworks-related injury involving a child. Family members rushed Luttrell to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities confirm the incident occurred while family members were setting off fireworks as part of a holiday gathering. No additional official details have been released.
