The Wayne County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, June 18. The meeting opened with the board recognizing twenty-one retirees from the district.
During the meeting, the board approved a BG1 for the renovation of the office and restrooms at Bell Elementary. Superintendent Brian Dishman explained that with recent upgrades at Bell, addressing needs in the office and the restrooms would get the facility in good shape for years to come.
The board also approved a second BG1 for an ADA renovation of the high school gym and football field. The focus of this project will be creating handicap accessible entrances and restrooms in both facilities, as well as making other upgrades to improve ADA compliance.
Near the conclusion of the meeting, the board went into executive session to discuss the evaluation of Superintendent Brian Dishman. When the board returned from executive session, they shared that Superintendent Dishman was given an overall exemplary rating, the highest rating possible.
In other business, the board:
- Heard a first reading of KSBA Policy Update #49.
- Approved KSBA Procedure Update #30.
- Appointed Board Member Tony Roberts to serve on the Local Planning Committee for the District Facility Plan.
- Approved a contract with DECO Architects to complete the District Facility Plan.
- Approved pay request #4 for the Walker Early Learning Center Renovation project.
- Approved paying an invoice to DECO Architects for professional services related to the Walker Early Learning Center Renovation.
- Approved adult meal prices and al a carte meal prices for 2026-2027.
