FEMA Awards $308,000 to South Kentucky RECC as Part of Disaster Recovery Package

FEMA has approved more than $19 million to support 22 disaster recovery and mitigation projects across Kentucky, including a significant award to South Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation (RECC).

South Kentucky RECC will receive $308,000 to repair buildings and equipment damaged during the May 2025 severe storms and tornadoes. The funding comes through FEMA’s Public Assistance program, which reimburses eligible recovery costs at a minimum 75% federal cost share.

The electric cooperative’s project was one of several funded across the state, with other awards including:

  • $14 million to the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management for statewide management costs tied to 2025 severe storms and COVID‑19.
  • $1.9 million to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for debris removal and road and bridge repairs from multiple 2025 storm events.
  • $557,000 to Louisville/Jefferson County MSD for emergency protective measures after April 2025 flooding.
  • $464,000 to Union County and $412,000 to Gallatin County for road and bridge repairs.
  • $458,000 to the Frankfort Housing Authority for emergency protective measures.

FEMA also approved $579,000 for a landslide and soil‑stabilization project at Island Creek Cemetery in Pike County, tied to the 2021 flooding and landslides.

The funding supports ongoing recovery efforts following multiple rounds of severe weather that have impacted Kentucky communities in recent years.
