The Wayne County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, April 16. During the meeting, the board approved salary schedules for the 2026-2027 school year, including a 2% pay increase for all certified and classified employees. The board also approved the tentative budget for FY 2027.
Superintendent Brian Dishman reported that the district received no bids for the proposed renovation to the WCHS Softball complex. The board discussed options for moving forward with the project, and voted to use model procurement to solicit subcontractors to complete the work, with the district purchasing materials directly to reduce project costs.
In other business, the board:
- Heard an update on Wayne County Schools Gear Up Program.
- Approved Monticello Banking Company depository bond for 2026-2027.
- Approved a contract with Montgomery and Company, P.L.L.C. for the 2026-2027 financial audit.
- Approved continuing a contract with Upchurch Insurance and Financial Services/Energy Insurance Agency as agent of record for property, equipment, liability, auto, and workers compensation insurance for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Approved pay request #3 for the Walker Early Learning Center Renovation project.
- Approved paying two invoices to DECO Architects for professional services related to the Walker Early Learning Center Renovation.
