AP: Hal Rogers secures Republican nomination in U.S. 5th District

(WYMT) – Longtime congressman Hal Rogers has garnered enough votes to clinch the Republican nomination for the U.S. 5th District, the Associated Press reports.

Rogers beat out Kevin Smith, Jerry Lee Shelton, Benjamin Hurley and Brandon Monhollen for the Republican ticket.

Rogers will look to retain his seat as the representative in the 5th Congressional District, taking on Democratic candidate Ned Pillersdorf in the General Election in November.

Rogers is the Dean of the House of Representatives and has been in office since 1981.
