(WKYT) – The defense for Shannon Gilday, a man facing charges after being suspected in a 2022 home invasion and homicide, is claiming he is not guilty by reason of insanity.
During Gilday’s trial Monday, a forensic psychologist is testifying that Gilday was having a psychotic break at the time of the crime according to the Lexington Herald Leader.
The Madison County home invasion resulted in the murder of Jordan Morgan, daughter of the homeowner and former state lawmaker Wesley Morgan. Police say Gilday said he broke into the home because voices told him to, and he thought these voices were instructions from the FBI.

The testifying psychologist says Gilday was “absolutely psychotic” when Jordan was killed. The defense is using this argument to persuade jurors to find him not guilty.
If Gilday is found guilty, he could be facing life in prison or the death penalty.
