The Wayne County Fiscal Court met in regular session Thursday.
The court approved the appointment of Jeremy Rector to the tourism board.
During the Fire Department update it was noted that nine individuals had completed recent training, and one person is nearing certification which will bring the total number of members to 34 with the local department.
It was noted during the solid waste report that individuals are still dumping non-recyclable items into the recycling bins set up at various locations in the city. The last dump was a large amount of clothing and under items and it cost $1300 to get it sorted, collected, and disposed of. County officials will continue to monitor the situation before making changes.
Magistrate Jonathan Dobbs asked County Attorney, Tom Simmons who is the owner of the local Community Telecom Services. Simmons stated it was owned jointly by the County and City. Dobbs, who is a CTS board member told the court he began asking CTS to provide a return of $6000 per month to county and $6000 to the city earlier this year to which no money has been collected. With July beginning a new fiscal year Dobbs said he would return to the board and make another request.
