According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron an Albany, KY. man has been arrested for drug trafficking after a vehicle traffic stop.
On July 2, 2025, at approximately 8:40 pm Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputy Nick Bertram, while working on an ongoing drug investigation by the Sheriff Office was surveilling a suspected drug trafficking residence located on First Street in the city limits of Monticello. Deputy Bertram observed a Dodge Ram pickup truck leaving that residence and then observed that vehicle making a traffic violation. Deputy Bertram conducted the traffic stop to address the traffic violation and to continue with his drug investigation. The owner of the vehicle gave consent for a search of the vehicle and his person. Deputy Bertram then deployed his K-9 Unit Riko for a free air-sniff. K-9 Riko altered positively for illegal narcotics on the passenger side. A search of the passenger by Deputy Bertram resulted in a plastic baggie containing suspected methamphetamine. The passenger stated it was methamphetamine to Deputy Bertram.
Deputy Bertram charged and arrested Christopher R. Guffey of Albany, KY. for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine). Using the Sheriff’s Office Tru-Narc Narcotic Analysis Instrument the substance tested positive as being methamphetamine with a total weight of 8.19 grams.
Guffey was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
Deputy Bertram was assisted by Deputies Jerry Coffey and Brad Tucker.
Also, the Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputy Nick Bertram arrested a Monticello man after assaulting his girlfriend and her 10-year-old son.
On July 2, 2025, at approximately 5:51 pm, Deputy Bertram was dispatched by Wayne County 911 Dispatch Center to a residence located on Roberts Road after a 10-year-old had called stating his mother was being assaulted at that time. Upon Deputy Bertram arrived on scene he learned that the male had assault both the child and the mother.
While Deputy Bertram was placing the male under arrest for the assaults he began resisting. Deputy Bertram then radioed into the Dispatch Center for backup to assist him. Deputy Joe Horne responded along with Monticello Police Officer Jeremy Thompson to assist.
Deputy Bertram charged and arrested Jeffrey Fulton of Monticello, KY. for assault-4th degree-(domestic violence), assault-4th degree (child abuse), assault-3rd degree(on Police Officer), 2 counts of terroristic threatening-3rd degree, disorderly conduct-2nd degree and resisting arrest.
Fulton was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
