The Monticello City Council gave approval this week for Fire Chief Gabe Heatherly to apply for grant money to purchase new wildfire fighting gear for the local department.
The grant would cover the shirts, pants, gloves, helmets, and firefighting tools for fire fighters that are used when battling wildfires. The application will be submitted before the deadline of April 30th and will ask for $10,000. If approved the City would only be responsible for $5000 in matching funds.
So far this year the local department has responded to a total of 154 calls with 40 fire calls responded to.
