At 2:59 a.m. Sunday (Mar 30) the Monticello-Wayne County 911 Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery had just occurred at Murphy’s USA in the Walmart Plaza. A description of the perpetrator and the vehicle he fled in was provided to Dispatchers who promptly relayed that information to on-duty city and county law enforcement officers.
Moments later, WCSO Deputy Jerry Meadows observed a pickup truck westbound on the KY 90 bypass matching the description provided by the victim. Deputy Meadows initiated his emergency lights & siren in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle, however, the driver would not pull over resulting in a multi-agency pursuit that ultimately ended in Adair County when KSP Troopers deployed “tire deflation devices” then forced the fleeing vehicle off the roadway.
Christopher Eric Guinn, 36, of Monticello, was taken into custody and lodged in the Adair County Detention Center on numerous charges filed by state police including Speeding, Reckless Driving, Wanton Endangerment of Police Officers, Fleeing or Evading Police, Receiving Stolen Property, Tampering with Physical Evidence, DUI, Terroristic Threatening and Resisting Arrest.
The truck Guinn was operating had been stolen from a residence on KY 1275 North in Wayne County a short time prior to the armed robbery at Murphy’s USA.
MPD Officer Jeramy Thompson has obtained warrants charging Guinn with Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder and Robbery 1st Degree in connection with the armed robbery at Murphy’s USA.
Investigations are continuing by the Monticello Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police.
