According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron an investigation by Deputy James Barnett has resulted in 2 stolen firearms being recovered and a Wayne County man being arrested.
On February 8, 2025, the firearms were reported stolen from a vehicle located at a local business facility. Monticello Police Department Officer Josh Smith took the initial report. Over the next several days Deputy Barnett obtained information from a confidential source as to who may have stolen the firearms and that these firearms were posted privately on social media for sale. During Deputy Barnett’s investigation, he learned these firearms had been sold at least twice to individuals not knowing they were stolen. On February 20, 2025, Deputy Barnett’s investigation led him to recover both firearms and then he obtained a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for Ricky Cross Jr of Monticello, KY. On February 24, 2025, Deputy Barnett located Cross and placed him under arrest on the Complaint Warrant for receiving stolen property (firearm).
Cross was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Monica Rood of Monticello, KY. was arrested for intimidating a participant in the legal process and disorderly conduct degree.
Tracy Shelton of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County District Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to appear for a Motion to Revoke Hearing on the underlying charges of criminal trespassing-1st degree and non-payment of court costs, fees or fines.
Rood and Shelton were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
