The Monticello City Council met for regular business Monday night with all in attendance.
The Council heard the 2nd reading of an ordinance that will change up business license and how they’re grouped. There was much discussion on how license should be required in various fields of business. The council did agree that vendors for Fall fest and the Monticello Market and nonprofit events should not be required to purchase a license.
The ABC report for December showed $303,536 in alcohol sales and $13,886 collected in taxes.
Monticello Police officers will be undergoing several training events in the coming months, recently officer Casey Lang and his K-9 have been involved in extension training. Two new police officers could be hired by mid March with Academy training coming in June. At the present time background checks and other requirements are taking place.
Councilmember Cody Dishman who also serves as representative to the Utility Commission Board informed the mayor and court that talks have been held on how to pay back money owed to the city by the Commission. It was noted the board is leaning towards offering monthly payments of $4,000 per month for 36 months.
