The November Election is here and there are two state constitutional amendments on the ballot, hopefully we can simplify what those are about and let you know what a yes and no vote means.
Amendment One on the ballot pertains to the voting rights for non-citizens. It asks if you want to amend the state constitution to say that non-citizens should not be allowed to vote in Kentucky. Right now, non-citizens are already banned on a federal level from voting. This amendment if passed would change Kentucky’s state constitution to include that you must be a US citizen to vote in Kentucky, supporters say this will make it so it cannot be changed in the future without a new amendment.
If you think only United States citizens should be allowed to vote in Kentucky elections, then you would vote “YES” to amend the constitution to reflect that. If you do not think voting should be limited to only US citizens, you should vote “NO” to not amend the constitution and leave it as it is presently as a federal only law.
Amendment Two pertains to public funding for private schools. The question on the ballot asks if you are in favor of the General Assembly providing financial support for the education of students outside the system of common schools. Your vote would be a simple yes or no.
Keep in mind on Election Day precinct workers will not be allowed to explain the issues on the ballot.
