Council Gives Approval to Tax Rates at Last night’s Meeting

The Monticello City Council met in regular session Monday and gave approval to the 2nd reading of the property tax ordinance which would set real property rates at 13.8 cents per $100 of assessed value.  That is up 4% which translates into a two cent increase from the 11.8 cents last year.   It was noted that the tax rate locally is much lower than the state average and lower than the lake area counties average.  The ordinance passed on a 4-2 vote with members Cody Dishman, Allan Hopper, Jamie Reagan, and Allen Vaughn voting in favor and Tim Pyles and Knox Bertram voting no.
