According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Monticello man has been arrested for drug trafficking.
On August 28, 2024, at approximately 9 pm Deputy Brad Tucker observed the man operating a vehicle on Kentucky Highway 90 which was known to him as having an active arrest warrant. While Deputy Tucker was attempting to initiate a traffic stop the man continued a short distance while shifting around inside his vehicle in a suspicious manner. Once stopped while Deputy Tucker was advising the operator the reason for the stop, Deputy Jerry Coffey observed a crystal substance laying in plain view inside the vehicle. A continued search resulted in a small bag of marijuana and $1,246.00 in cash being seized.
Deputy Tucker arrested Johnnie L. Sweet of Monticello, KY. for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine) and possession of marijuana. Sweet was also arrested on a Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for Probation Violation on the underlying charges of trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine) and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
The Wayne County Sheriff Office also arrested Shawn Watson of Stearns, KY. on a McCreary County Circuit Court Indictment Warrant of Arrest for fleeing or evading Police-1st degree, fleeing or evading Police-2nd degree and wanton endangerment-1st degree (Police Officer).
Sweet and Watson were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
