(WKYT) – The Kentucky State Police are investigating a death in Harlan County.
According to the Kentucky State Police, human remains were found in the River Ridge area of Evarts near Kentucky Highway 38 on Tuesday.
The Harlan County Coroner’s Office said Coroner John Derrick Noe could not determine the cause of death or the sex of the victim.
“Due to some not understanding we are talking years, not days of death,” the coroner’s office said.
Further investigation needs to be done by the state medical examiner, according to the coroner’s office. They, along with KSP detectives, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
The Harlan County Sheriff’s Office and the Evarts Fire Department are assisting the state police with the investigation.
