At approximately 11:08am firefighters responded to the Dishman’s Personal Care Home on Worsham Lane for a report of a gas leak. Wayne County EMS also responded and transported multiple patients to the hospital with issues from the exposure. Units from the fire department made sure the structure was evacuated and proceeded to check for leaks and problems. Firefighters set up fans to clean out the building and kept testing the gas levels in different parts of the structure. Administration was advised to contact their gas company and have them check tanks and lines inside and out of the building. County Judge Executive Scott Gehring provided carbon monoxide detectors for the building to help ensure the safety of the residents. Firefighters remained on scene for almost two hours at the Care Home.
