(WKYT) – Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams officially enrolled Kentucky in a federal education tax program created by 2025’s Big Beautiful Bill by signing documentation with the Internal Revenue Service on Wednesday.
The program allows families to receive a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 for contributions to approved scholarship granting organizations.
Adams was given the power to enroll the commonwealth in the program by House Bill 1, which took effect last week.
Supporters of the bill say it will give students more opportunities to enroll in private schools.
Something Adams touched on in his remarks.
“This President, Congress, General Assembly and Secretary of State have Kentucky students’ backs,” Adams said. “All eligible Kentucky students – public, private and home-schooled – will soon have access to better and more affordable education.”
Rep. T.J. Roberts is excited to see the legislation take effect.
“We’re one step closer to unlocking true educational opportunity for Kentucky students in communities of all sizes across the Commonwealth,” Roberts said. “I look forward to seeing Kentuckians embrace this opportunity and work together to open more doors for children across the Commonwealth.”
Adams also filed a regulation that established the procedure for submitting, reviewing and processing SGO filings with the commonwealth.
