Monticello Man Charged in Investigation Involving Messages to Minor

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Wayne County man has
been arrested after an investigation conducted by Deputy James Barnett of
sending sexual type messages/photos to an underage female.
On August 24, 2026, Deputy Barnett received the complaint from a family
member of the juvenile victim and receiving the juvenile’s cell phone.
Deputy Barnett then began his investigation. Once locating the suspect in
this case Deputy Barnett conducted an interview and was able to obtain the
cell phone that was used by the suspect to send the sexual type text
messages/phots to the juvenile. These messages began back on August
15,2026, with numerous text messages and pictures were sent to each
other.
At 4:26 pm, on August 24, 2026, Deputy Barnett charged and arrested
Shawn E. Lawhorn of Monticello, KY. for 2 counts of possessing matter of
sex performance of a minor (greater than 12 but less than 18 years of age),
and procuring or promoting a use of a minor by electronic means. Deputy
Barnett’s investigation is continuing with the cell phone being sent to ROIC
Agency to obtain any deleted evidence.
The Wayne County Sheriff Office also made the following unrelated arrests.
Sandi J. Stringfield of Somerset, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County
District Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to pay or show cause on the
underlying charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of
alcohol.
Timothy M. Kelley of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County
Circuit Court Warrant of arrest for failure to appear for a Child support
Hearing.
Stringfield was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center with Kelley
being released from custody after posting a Bond.
