(WKYT) – A former University of Kentucky guard charged with wire fraud now knows his trial date.
Kerr Kriisa’s trial will begin on August 25 in Wheeling, West Virginia.
He also entered a not guilty plea and waived his right to appear at his arraignment, according to the court documents.
Kriisa is charged with five counts of wire fraud and made his first appearance in federal court in Lexington on Tuesday.
He is alleged to have defrauded two victims over several years of more than $2.2 million by claiming that his mother had cancer, his family was in danger and his family’s farm needed saving.
Days before his arrest, Kriisa was announced as a member of the La Familia TBT team.
La Familia General Manager Twany Beckham spoke on the situation with WKYT.
“I was excited for him to be back. He got hurt while he was here and didn’t get to show his full game, so this was going to be an opportunity for him. When I heard the news, I was very disappointed; disappointed in him; disappointed in just the decisions,” Beckham said.
La Familia has since announced that Kriisa will no longer be part of the team.
