(WKYT) – Search and rescue crews located the body of a 25-year-old Jessamine County man who fell into the water after a boat crashed into a pontoon at Herrington Lake on Monday.
According to a statement from the Mercer County Fire Department, the body of Nazar Svintozelskyi was found around 3:50 p.m. in 184 feet of water.
Nazar’s body was taken to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
“It is a very sad ending for Nazar’s family but an opportunity for closure and ending of all the fake reports generated on social media. The Mercer County Fire Department would like to send our deepest condolences to Nazar’s family,” fire officials said in the statement.
Mercer County Emergency Management said the crash happened around 8 p.m. Saturday near Herrington Woods Road.
A boat struck a pontoon carrying the Svintozelskyi family, who were on the lake for a Fourth of July outing, according to family friend Tetiana Soloshchuk.
Father airlifted to hospital
Soloshchuk said Alex Svintozelskyi, Nazar’s father, was seriously injured in the crash and was airlifted to UK Hospital.
