According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Wayne County man has been arrested after stealing several vehicles, attempting to steal an ambulance and for attempted murder after trying to run over one of the stolen vehicles owner.
On July 10, 2025, at approximately 11:30 pm, Wayne County 911 Dispatch Center received a call regarding a male subject that attempted to steal an ambulance at the Wayne County Hospital. The male was unsuccessful in stealing the ambulance but left the scene in a black Ford Fusion vehicle after taking that vehicle. Approximately 15 minutes later Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputies Nick Bertram and Brad Tucker were dispatched by the Dispatch Center to a residence located on O.P. Link Road for a theft of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that just occurred. Upon the Deputies arrival they learned that a family member known as Anthony Dykes had entered the residence asking to use a phone and upon leaving, he stole the mention pickup truck. Deputies then noticed the Ford Fusion nearby. Approximately 12: 15 am on July 11, 2025, Deputies were dispatched to a residence located on East Kentucky Highway 790 after the Dispatch Center received a call about Dykes coming to that residence asking for money and while leaving attempted to open a locked door of another pickup truck located there. While patrolling in that area looking for Dykes and the stolen vehicle the Deputies were flagged down by a male individual. The male stated to the Deputies that he had stopped to assist Dykes who had wreck. While doing so Dykes got into the man’s 2004 Chevrolet Suburban and took off in it. The man stated that Dykes then turned around in the roadway, accelerated towards him in an attempt strike him with the vehicle. Later Monticello Police Officer Brandon Bertram located and identified Dykes walking down West Columbia Avenue in the city limits of Monticello. The stolen Suburban was later located in the parking lot behind the Monticello Wayne County Museum. The stolen 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was located in a gulley on East Kentucky Highway 790 near the Liberty Cemetery Road.
Approximately 2:23 AM, Deputy Nick Bertram charged and arrested Anthony Dykes of Monticello, KY. for 3 counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition-auto ($10,000.00 but less than$1,000,000.00).
Dykes was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $50,000.00 full cash Bond.
The Wayne County Sheriff Office also arrested the following.
William Creger of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for terroristic threating-3rd degree.
James King of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County District Court Warrant of Arrest for Contempt of Court for leaving a Rehab Center.
Trento Tucker of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Boyle County District Court Warrant of Arrest for Contempt of Court failure to appear.
Creger, King and Tucker were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
